Pre-Easter Hunt

This is our first New Zealand Easter.  And while I'm soooo glad to be back with real chocolate and hot cross buns (more on those later), Easter isn't as commericalised here, so people don't really do egg hunts.  And in order to keep Malachi's American heritage alive, we had a little hunt.  The weather was terrible, every time we planned to do it, some unseasonal storm would hit and it would be postponed (Easter is in autumn here, not spring.).  But we held it none the less, and despite the odd blue lip, the kids had a blast.  But in all honesty, I think the parents had more fun, watching all the kids.  It was funny, Katherien only wanted big gold eggs, Malachi only wanted little coloured eggs, Hannah got one egg and then just wanted to eat that one and didn't care about any more eggs, every time Katherine bent down to pick up an egg she'd drop all the rest and Caitlyn was right there to pick them all back up again.  It was fun.

First they made little baskets and decorated them.

Vili was asleep, so on the real Easter weekend, we'll have another hunt so Vili had have his first little hunt.  Means I'll have to get more eggs to replace the ones I've already eaten.....

Fun day though!

Aaawww wish the boys were here. We're doing an Easter egg hunt/bbq here tomorrow at our house. In fact I'm still up getting some last minute things done...chicken marinading/check....lu & sipi chopped and laid out/check...hot dogs, hamburger patties thawing in the sink/check...eggs filled with candy/check...pinata filled with more candy/check. The only thing I haven't done is get Matt and Kanani's easter baskets ready, apparently it's the "American" thing to do but Megan is taking care of Matt's Easter basket, now I have to do one for Kanani in case some years later she asks why she never got one....lol. I really wish you guys were here :)

And I'm glad you guys had one..and another one to come :)
